Research Areas

Structural Engineering

The specific research activities consist mainly of numerical and experimental research on the different topics of structural engineering, such as:

  • Thermo-mechanical characterization of construction materials and their durability used in structural elements and systems;
  • Development of models for structural analysis, considering geometric and material non-linear behaviour;
  • Structural analysis and fire resistance towards Performance Based Fire Engineering of structures;
  • Rehabilitation, conservation and reinforcement of structures;
  • Dynamic analysis of structures and control systems.

Materials, Products and Eco-Construction

In this research line, the main goals to achieve are:

  • The inspection, evaluation and analysis of the life cycle of the infrastructures built in rural, urban and industrial;
  • Materials and products with embedded low energy and deconstruction, reuse and recycling strategies;
  • The characterization of materials and construction systems as well as the evaluation of durability for sustainability;
  • Manufacturing processes and their optimization.

Energy, Environment and Management

In this research line, the main goals to achieve are:

  • Built environment sustainability and quality (energy efficiency, water efficiency and reuse, construction and demolition waste, fire safety, sustainable mobility, sustainable construction at site work and life cycle analysis).
  • Implementation and development of numerical and computational methods for the solution of partial differential equations in the context of thermal and fluid mechanics.
